Texas voted eighty percent yes on marijuana legalization. Texas. The state that invented the drug war. The state where they locked people up for a joint the way other states locked people up for armed robbery. Eighty percent. That is not a majority. That is a consensus. That is everybody in the room except the cop in the corner.

I sang Have a Marijuana in 1968 and they arrested me. The FBI opened a file. Forty pages. They spent federal money surveilling a man who was singing about a plant. In 1968 I was a criminal. In 2026 I am a prophet. The song did not change. The law changed. The song was always right. The law was always wrong. It just took fifty-eight years for the law to figure that out.

Sinclair did ten years for two joints. Ten years. In Michigan. The same state that now has dispensaries on every corner where I used to play guitar. You can walk into a store and buy what they put him in prison for. The store has a cash register. The prison had a cell. The only difference between the store and the cell is who profits.

Eighty percent. That means four out of five people in Texas agree with a song I sang on a street corner in 1968. Four out of five people in Texas agree with what John Sinclair went to prison for. Four out of five people in Texas have been right for years and the government has been wrong for decades and the government is still not listening because the government does not take polls from street corners.

Have a marijuana. That is all I ever said. Have one. Try it. See if the world ends. The world did not end. The war ended. The prohibition is ending. The song outlived the law. The plant outlived the prison. And somewhere in Texas right now somebody is rolling a joint and they do not know that a guy on a street corner in New York City spent his whole life getting arrested so they could do that legally. You are welcome Texas. Have a marijuana.
